Domain Spells

Domain spells are specialized spells that affect a given province with power, or used to attack other provinces with unholy power. Each domain spell has an associated cost in GB (gold bars) as well as an effect and a duration. In order to cast any domain spell, one must have a ley line established in their province.

Land’s Bounty
GB Cost: 6
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This spell creates a harvest of food throughout either the home province or a neighboring province. If the land was affected by a drought or floods, then the province experiences good weather instead. Either way, the spell grants a +4 to loyalty rolls that domain turn and cancels out Blight.

Purification
GB Cost: 20
Duration: Four domain turns
Effect: This allows the home province to experience purification. This causes the following:

  • Meat no longer causes corruption, and can be eaten safely.
  • The populous receives a second saving throw against disease, if applicable. Will slow the effects of rebellion caused by plague by two domain turns.
  • Allows a saving throw against unholy ritual. Use the casters save vs. magic in order to succeed.
  • Grants a +2 towards all loyalty checks.

Reinforce Province
GB Cost: 10
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This spell allows the province lord to magically reinforce all his keeps, holdings with walls, and castles to withstand 90% of the damage magical bombardment would otherwise deal.

Rally
GB Cost: 6
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This allows the province lord to issue order across his domain much more quickly than normal and allow the province lord to appear more competent than he may be. This grants a +2 to loyalty checks as well as grant a one step increase in your troops effectiveness in battle.

Infernal Pact
GB Cost: 20
Duration: Four domain turns
Effect: This allows the mage to cast an unholy spell that contracts out lesser and greater infernals to follow the instructions of the province lord. The infernals disguise themselves as humans and wear their appropriate faction colors and standard (black/red for devils, black/green for yugoloth, and black/random for demons). The infernals in turn either corrupt or destroy 6% of the populous, using their souls as barter in the blood war. This causes unrest in the province and a -4 loyalty penalty, but provides the following:

  • The infernals allow the province lord to have four elite troops per province that cost no upkeep and obey the province lord faithfully.
  • The infernals loot and steal from the neighboring populous in disguise and grant 1d6 GB.
  • If taxes are collected in the province, then the province lord gains an additional +1 GB per holding.
  • A province under infernal pact and unholy ritual only receives a -2 penalty to their loyalty check.
  • The spell will be unraveled in 1d3 days if the mage who cast the spell is killed.

Unholy Ritual
GB Cost: 6
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This ritual is commonly used by Gorg’mor’ak and scheming wizards to shift either their province alignment or a neighboring one by one step towards evil. Gorg’mor’ak often use this tactic to weaken a province before attacking it head on. Each month the spell is in effect, 15% of the populous is affected. Those zero level receive no saving throw, and the effect stays in place as long as the spell is in effect. Those level one though three receive a saving throw, while those fourth level or higher are immune. If the effect is in place one year, then the effects on those whom are affected are permanent.

Blight
GB Cost: 6
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This causes the targeted domain (up to two provinces away!) to be affected by unnatural weather, droughts, floods, and even crops ruined. This causes a -4 loyalty penalty to the targeted province that turn.

Plague
GB Cost: 6
Duration: One domain turn
Effect: This spell can only be the target of a blighted province (regardless if the blight is successful or not) and has the same range. The targeted province experiences a plague upon the populous, and automatically causes unrest, crime, and heresy. If this continues for three domain turns in a row, then the province is incited into rebellion.
